Dr. Ana Turchetti-Maia’s scientific career has already spanned three continents. She received her Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, working on neuronal processing of visual areas. This was also the subject she explored as a guest researcher at the Max-Planck Institute for Brain Research in Germany. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she discovered a new mechanism of learning and memory. Prior to joining the FreeMind team, Dr. Turchetti-Maia worked at Tel Aviv University on the visual deficits of a severe childhood epileptic syndrome. She has also served as a research analyst at a high-tech start-up, while developing an educational project at the National Natural History Collections.

Dr. Turchetti-Maia has won multiple awards, authored numerous scientific publications, and has served as a reviewer for scientific journals. An experienced speaker, she has been invited to present seminars at conferences and institutions all around the world. Dr. Turchetti-Maia is also fluent in six languages – English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, German and Hebrew. Today she uses her strong background in academic policies and her international experience to assist non-US academic institutions secure US non-dilutive funding.
